A conservative, cosmetic way to repair cavities and restore healthy, beautiful smiles without silver metals

At Tooth Architect Dental Care, all our patients in and around Sandy Springs, are entitled to dental solutions that not only emulate the appearance of natural teeth but also offer optimal functionality. In turn, all of the services, materials, and products carefully selected by Dr. Shiva Talebi support this fundamental mission and principle.

Dental composites are a great replacement for previously used silver mercury fillings. This blend of tooth-colored resin (plastic) and glass-like particles is designed to mimic the aesthetics of healthy, natural teeth. It is a versatile material, providing an attractive alternative to amalgam or silver-colored metal fillings and a conservative option to porcelain veneers.

More on composites for fillings

All services start with a consultation. During your visit, Dr. Talebi will assess the condition of your dental concern. Every effort is made to preserve as much of the tooth structure as possible. In many cases, when detected and addressed early, no treatment may be necessary. Dr. Talebi practices preventative dentistry and works with her patients on changes to oral care products, nutrition, and home care techniques.

We can also discuss in-office procedures to stop the progression of early-stages of enamel erosion. Without treatment, this process of decay can lead to the development of cavities or holes where the tooth structure has been eroded by the destructive acids found in bacterial plaque.

Depending on the size of the cavity, a filling may be appropriate. The composite resin is applied, layer by layer, to repair the defect, That is to replace the lost tooth structure to strengthen it and prevent further damage. For larger cavities, Dr. Talebi may discuss options like inlays, onlays (partial crowns), and full coverage dental crowns. It is important to have sufficient healthy tooth structure to support the dental restoration, whether a filling or crown. Large fillings may be insufficient to strengthen and support a tooth with more severe damage. Since the treated tooth would be vulnerable to future breakage, a restoration with “greater coverage” might be recommended.

If tooth-colored or white, metal-free fillings are appropriate for you and your dental care, they also present a:

  • Tissue-preserving option with minimal alteration of natural structure
  • Restoration that “wears well” does not become darker or corrode over time
  • Viable option for individuals with metal allergies and sensitivities
  • Gentle alternative that does not irritate surrounding natural tissues

This is just the tip of the iceberg regarding the benefits of our premium, carefully vetted composite and metal-free materials. To learn more, call us at (404) 666-8066 or simply stop by the office of Tooth Architect Dental Care in Sandy Springs, GA.
