What to expect during your new patient dental exam and check-up

How often should I visit the dentist for a regular check-up?
Dr. Shiva Talebi encourages all patients to visit every six months as the gold standard. These regular visits help keep your teeth sparkly clean and catch any problems before they become bigger. Our patients also love that fresh, just-cleaned feeling when they leave the office after being under the care of our friendly team! Patients with heavier build up and periodontitis need to get a cleaning at least every 3-4 months. Pregnant patients, due to hormonal changes and changes in their gums and oral bacteria, also need to have more frequent cleanings as well.
I’m a new patient. What happens during my first exam?
Welcome to the family! For your first visit to Tooth Architect Dental Care, we dedicate extra time to establish you as a new patient and understand your dental and oral needs. Expect a comprehensive exam where we check your teeth, gums, overall oral health, and a holistic view of your overall health. We might also take some X-rays to get a closer look. We will guide you through each step and make it as comfortable as possible.
Do I need a dental check-up if my teeth feel fine?
Even if your teeth feel healthy and clean, there could be sneaky issues hiding out that only a dentist can spot. Dr. Talebi’s dental philosophy is focused on preventative care. Dr. Shiva Talebi will evaluate your smile and look for signs of problems such as periodontal disease and tooth decay. The damage caused by these conditions is irreversible, so early detection and treatment are required to maintain your natural smile as much as possible!

How long does a regular check-up or new patient exam take?
A typical check-up takes about 45 minutes to an hour. New patient exams may take longer since we are laying the foundation for your personalized care plan.
